Alistair MacDougall

When I was quiet young my grandparents had an encyclopaedia of animals of the world, and I would flip straight to the gorilla page every time I visited and marvel at the line drawing of the silverback.

To find myself not only sitting among gorillas but sharing the experience with others through photo safaris wasn’t even in my realm of possibility as a child.

Having graduated from UNSW with a degree in design, majoring in photography, I became an Art Director working alongside photographers in the advertising world before transitioning into full-time commercial photography.

For many years I've worked as a commercial photographer in Sydney.
I've photographed for clients such as Optus, Bigpond, Speedo, Fitness First and Hoyts to name just some.

When the opportunity to combine my love of nature with photography came about it was only natural to want to share this with others, and so Photo Organic was born.

Teaching and learning alongside enthusiastic photographers on safari has been an incredible opportunity and taught me that my love of teaching and sharing with others is as strong as my love of photography itself.

I felt Photo Organic should be very different from a sterile classroom environment.
It goes without saying that travelling on safari and collecting photos and first-hand knowledge is as good as it gets for any keen photographer.
A Photo Safari is an amazing all round experience.  It's the ultimate environment to enjoy and learn your camera. But there's so much more than just tech talk. Our Photo Safaris have been carefully planned  to be the ultimate Safari experience that photographers of all capabilities can enjoy.

I also wanted to bring that feeling of wonder and joy to our local workshops.

There is so much beauty around us to capture with our camera that once we unlock some of the mysteries and concepts of photography, it’s a pure joy to learn and grow as a photographer.”
